4. PETITION ON TAIL DOCKING
The Government is proposing to introduce an Animal Welfare Bill
which would prohibit the docking of dogs' tails. At present docking
is legal provided that it is carried out by a veterinary surgeon.
It is particularly important in working breeds such as spaniels,
hunt-point-retrieve breeds and terriers, which are expected to hunt
through heavy cover and are at risk of tail damage.
The Council of Docked Breeds campaigns to retain the docking option
and is currently running an online petition which will be sent to
DEFRA. If you support the maintenance of tail docking, then visit
the petition website and sign now.
